If you are using Outlook Express and having problem sending out email using your default SMTP server… here is the solution. If you have a Gmail account, you can switch to using Gmail SMTP.

This is the error message on SMTP error

Change your default SMTP to smtp.gmail.com

Check ‘My server requires authentication’ and enter your Gmail username and password

Use secure connection and enter 465 as SMTP Port number.
Hi,
I have my own webmail within my own website. I try to download my emails via outlook express.
The problem begins when I could not sent out emails via outlook (but can receive mail). Thought the configuration w/ my laptop is faulty. However the emails can be sent out from Singapore and not from Malaysia.
Why?
Regards,
Alvin
When you are in Malaysia and using Steamyx, TM blocks you from using any third party SMTP server. This explains while you can send out email from Singapore, as well as in Malaysia if you are not on Streamyx. Check this http://www.emailhosting.com.my/2008/03/18/inconsiderate-streamyx/.
Pls change your STMP address to smtp-proxy.tm.net.my and uncheck ‘My server requires authentication’ if you are on Streamyx.
thanks for the Streamyx tip!!!! i’m so happy. was going nuts figuring it out.
help! im a streamyx user and am now residing in SG. i’m still able to download emails from streamyx, but cannot send out! i’ve read the stuff here and tried to change the configurations but it’s not working. can anyone advise pls??? tx loads!
You mean you have tried using the Gmail’s SMTP? Make sure you have entered all details correctly. It should works. Try again :)
Do you use your own Gmail account?
tx for ur reply! no, i dont hv a gmail… but i hv hotmail tho. how shd i go about?
CT, signed up for a free Gmail account. Replace earnpin@gmail.com and the password. Oh ya, before that, you need to login to your Gmail and change the Setting to allow POP. You cant do this with Hotmail account.
great, it’s working! :))) tyvm for ur kind help!
After using the gmail SMTP, i found that my email have a higher rate of entering to Spam folder in gmail
Someone who can verify this? Personally, I do not think there is a link between these two issues.
Hi, i set the SMTP port as 465 and chcked the box as in the instructions above.
And followed what was written for the pop3 port.
It worked and i could send out emails using Windows Mail by my gmail a/c.
But now, the problem is, I can’t download my gmail emails into my Windows mail.
THe problem seems to be switched after i changed the port.
Can someone please help?
thanks!
You need to login to your Gmail and choose ‘Enable POP download’ in the Settings
