Last two months, TM announced to block the use of any external SMTP server. Subscribers of Streamyx broadband must change their SMTP address to smtp-proxy.tm.net.my. According to TM, this is to fight SPAM (I doubt this has anything to do with it…).
With all email users using TM’s STMP to deliver their email messages, something finally goes wrong!
TM’s SMTP is overloaded at last! The large amount of email going through this outgoing email server finally bring it down and all email users are having problem now especially most of their email does not deliver immediately. This nightmare starts this week. As usual, TM is not giving any notice on this issues.
TMnet support dun even know wats happening. i called up just now and they point back to me that is our domain webmail problem! Thanks to the monopoly business concept in Malaysia and lousy Servicing. MALAYSIA BOLEH!
You can try the Gmail SMTP as alternative. Or, if you are subscribing to any email hosting service, you can check with them if there they do provide any port other than 25. TM Boleh!
We’d been using smtp.streamyx.com for about a year, with nearly no complaints. It stopped working at the weekend – an authentication problem. Seems they stopped anybody with a default Streamyx password from sending mail. I thought I saw a message from TM saying they were going to do that, but can’t find it any more. Know anything about it?
I posted my fix for my sendmail mail server here.
That is pretty paintful! TM decision to block SMTP on port 25 not just causing problem to users using email clients like Outlook Express, but also Webmail form using their SMTP.
I would suggest not to use TM SMTP, as it would make your script not portable the moment it goes to another data centre not hosted by TM.
