TM’s SMTP Delivers Letter, Not Email

Posted by: pin on: 12 Jun, 2008

TM recently blocked all external SMTP except their own has forced everyone to switch and start using their SMTP. They claimed that this is one way for them to flight against Spam.

I am not sure to what extend this can help flighting Spam, but it has becoming a bottleneck now. The TM new rules block only port 25. Therefore, Spammer can still change their SMTP to different port and continue the so-called spamming activities.

But, true is - TM’s SMTP was no longer able to handle the increasing load of email delivering requests. Email delay problem occurs from 5 hours to a day.

Check your SMTP, if it points to smtp-proxy.tm.net.my, then you might want to consider printing out your email and send by Post, it could anytime faster :)

Hehe.. As a Malaysia-based webhost myself, TM has given me frequent headaches and lost of (productivity) time = $$$ this year…

Not because my servers get down or can send/receive emails, but because, we’d have to answer calls from customers complaining on why they cannot send out emails using desktop POP3 client (Outlook etc) or mobile phone as before — annoying process that takes up to over an hour for non-tech savvy users who can’t understand what SMTP is (Microsoft Outlook normally does the setup automatically just by entering email address, or customers can just execute a downloadable application/script off the web to do set up their email account automatically)

I can’t believe TM is getting desperate and want to steal business from independent hosts (including many smaller fish in Malaysia) by HIJACKING COMPETITORS: making it hard for Malaysian internet users to use email services from other hosts, even though TMNET’s offering of email mailbox has got to be one of the SMALLEST but MOST EXPENSIVE in the world - FREE for only 4MB which is less than 0.001% compared to 6000MB offered free per Google Mail’s !!

Hmm… my reply post would be multiple times longer than blog owner’s if I’d touch into TM’s server being blacklisted as spammers, and thus cannot communicate well with many international hosts, and how TM’s Domain Name Server (DNS) for Internet Access (at least for Streamyx customers) also got screwed so many times the past couple weeks by loading statscounter.com when loading facebook.com, facebook trying to run a search on google, google while trying to access twitter etc. — up to the point of disrupting email service when the packets cannot find correct hosts to deliver emails, or to fetch emals from the correct mailboxes.

And TM: Please get rid of Netmyne Internet Keyword Search Scam — this is likend to to practise that got Network Solutions (the first commercial domain registry & registrar that was later acquired by Verisign but later resold) got sued in the first place many years back! — incurred the wrath of the entire Internet community.

TM + Govt Monopoly = BAD for Malaysian SMEs = BAD for RAKYAT !!

TM DNS stay as most frequent search keyword based on my study. I bet must be lot of problem on that! :)

The Stremyx search is another example. It method of forcing (penalty) will no longer work. Think about how to reward! They should learn it from Google.
