Do You Really Need Push Email?

Push email, which has been around for quite a while, was invented to help ensure that you don’t miss out on important emails. What it does is send new emails instantly to your mobile phone, just like an SMS. While Push email used to be all the rage, it’s not a foolproof solution, especially not when:

1) You get a lot of emails. Just imagine going through hundreds of push email notifications on your mobile phone!

2) Push technology is unable to tell you which email has a higher urgency. Not all emails are important.

3) You can survive without Push Mail features. Just press the Mail icon on your mobile and you can access your email.

These days, however, with more and more people carrying iPhones and Blackberries around, mailboxes can be accesses anytime, anywhere. This, we believe, signals the beginning of the end for Push email. Just wait and see. We mean, just look at what happened to Web Channel, which was launched by Microsoft 10 years ago. Computer users were supposed to sit back and let Microsoft deliver web content to their desktops automatically, but users wanted more control. In the end Web Channel became obscure.

  1. My firm is using TM Net (Netmyne) e mail hosting through pop3 & smtp server. I am unable to push mail from the above mail server to my blackberry. The TM Net techinical support gave me a list of steps to follow to set up my blackberry setting, but it is useless, I still cannot push mail to my blackberry. I gave up on the TM Net Technical Support as they are not helpful or in short hopeless. Is any one out can help me to resolve the problem?

    1. Do you login to your Telco’s website to configure your email address? Without that, Push Mail won’t work. Your Telco has the BES or BIS server to access your mail server and update you on new email.

    2. If all settings has been done correctly, including those on your phone, it could be due to the TM’s mail server. Push Mail only works if your Mail server is fast enough to process incoming email. If it is overloaded (it happens to TM), or its DNS is not resolving correctly (to TM too), or too many Spammer are abusing TM’s mail server (yes, it happens too because they do not have a dedicated team to manage Spam), then email are not reaching your Inbox instantly. In this case, the Push Mail will not be triggered.

How many email users you have under your domain name?
